The Long Mountain Run took place on Sunday the 9th of April for once the weather was really nice and warm. We had the best entry for some time with 41 riders and drivers taking part in the event. The route master was Terry Sayce who organised a lovely route through the South Shropshire countryside. The run started and finished at the very popular The Inn-on-the-Green Wentnor Nr Bishops Castle. It was around 50 miles in length stopping for tea and coffee at the Bog Visitor Center, formerly the village School. another popular place with walkers, cyclists, cars and bikers calling for the excellent home made cakes and tea and coffee. in 17th18th and early 19th centuries this area would have been very busy with lead mining. despite a very busy day at the Inn Adrian and his staff but on a lovely carvery for us plus supplying breakfasts tea ect before the start for those who required it many thanks to them. Thanks also to the 41 entrants who turned out, Terry Sayce for the route, Daisy for putting the route on paper Nikki for designing the advert.
We had the best turnout so far for our club afternoons 21 members and guests, the speaker was Bruce Lawson and colleague from the Cloverlands Toy Museum Montgomery. Who gave a very interesting and amusing slide show and talk on the life of Charles Rolls of Rolls-Royce fame. Bruce has written a book Charles Rolls of Rolls-Royce, available direct from Bruce and other book sellers.
There were a couple of comments should we perhaps hold all our meetings in the afternoons, while most of our members are retiree’s we do have 3 or 4 members of working age. The pro’s for this are we don’t clash with the Pony Club meetings, more parking, so far we have been able to get speakers and it appears more members come on their motorcycles in the daylight. The cons are we are excluding our members who are still working there is the possibility some speakers may not be able to come in the afternoons. Any comments or idea’s for future meetings would be welcome. The landlord was on a day off, so our thanks to the young lady working the bar and the chef in the kitchen for staying on to provide us with food after the meeting.
The next club night will be a slide show and talk by Mike Watkins on The Empress of Ireland “what really happened”, at The Inn-on-the-Green at 2pm all are welcome you don’t have to be a member to come.
